I began my science career as a chemistry student in high school and earned associate’s degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics, and a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. I obtained graduate degrees in Anatomy and Medical Science-Pharmacology. During these years, I developed an interest in brain disorders and diseases and worked on Alzheimer’s disease for my doctoral dissertation. My postdoctoral training was at CDC-NIOSH where we investigated the effects of stress and neurotoxins on the brain. I joined a neurohistology laboratory as a project manager and quality control agent and worked with many investigators specifying stains and analyses appropriate for their experiments. I missed the research environment and joined the WVU Neuroscience department to investigate Alzheimer’s disease, sepsis, and stroke. When I’m not in lab, I enjoy playing bass guitar and synthesizer. A stray cat colony from my neighborhood has largely moved into my home.
